Christmas traditions

At this time last year, I presented The first wine-themed Christmas card, which was from 1843.

If you are interested in knowing more about Christmas cards, then the Moo card site once produced an infographic compiling some of the more interesting bits of information. I have included it here because it is no longer available on the original web site. Click on it to see the infographic at full size.

An amazing amount of other information about Christmas Traditions & Customs around the world can also be found at the Why Christmas web site.

God jul och gott nytt år!

  1. Here in California, one of our leading (now defunct) wine stores was Pacific Wine Company in San Francisco.

They distinguished themselves by their newsletter featuring a cartoon.

"Pacific Wine Company opened in 1979 and I [Bob Johnson] was commissioned to do the cover art for a mailer advertising the new Deli Sandwiches being featured. The whimsical covers evolved into a decade and a half of Balck & White cartoons that eventually became art for note cards, post cards, posters and Limited Edition Prints."

The most famous was arguably this one.

Christmas/holiday season cartoons later turned into postcards.

I leave you with this "classic" send-up from Stan Freberg, a seminal wit and social observer of the U.S. cultural landscape.
